Assam skipper Riyan Parag came close to rewriting history books as he smashed the second-fastest century in the history of the Ranji Trophy,
During Assam’s first game of the new season against Chhattisgarh at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium on Monday.
After Assam’s second dig, Parag smashed a century in 56 deliveries, eventually ending up with 155 off just 87 deliveries.
He hit 11 fours and 12 sixes during his mad knock, but the knock may not be enough to secure a win for his team.
However, Parag’s whirlwind innings ensured that Assam did not fall to an innings defeat in their season opener.
After Assam won the toss and opted to field first, Chhattisgarh posted 327 riding on skipper Amandeep Khare’s 116 and Shashank Singh’s 82 and then proceeded to bundle out Assam for 159 to take a lead of 168 runs.
Chhattisgarh enforced the follow-on, and coming into bat at 78/2, Parag kept losing his partners at regular intervals but managed to string together partnerships with Bishal Roy,
Akash Sengupta and then with the tale to help Assam to 254, thus setting Chhattisgarh a target of 87.
